Brief Biography

Francois’ life voyage has been a sort of initiatory journey.

Born in the Loire Valley, a few meters from Leonardo da Vinci’s last residence, Francois became a student of the Paris School of « Beaux Arts », under a great Italian maestro and adept of Le Corbusier.

He continued his initiation with history, first in Italy, then Greece, and finally in Egypt in the temple of Amon in Karnak where he worked as an archeologist. Two years in an Egyptian sanctuary makes a profound impact on any soul, and Francois returned from these voyages a changed man.

In 1977, avid in creation, in search of a certain truth and authenticity, Francois chose the small villages of Provence over a large metropolis to open his first architectural studio. He considers himself a “village architect” with the same intention one might use the term “village doctor”.

Some projects later, Francois set out for Saint Barthelemy to design a small hotel. Seduced by the population of the local pioneers, hardened by their lifestyle but open to newcomers, he would return home briefly, only to pack his bags and come back to St. Barth definitively in 1978.

Francois Pecard is one of the first licensed architects to settle in Saint Barthelemy. His role in the discovery of traditional architecture and its evolution towards contemporary style is decisive, and will mark an important époque of touristic development for this small piece of Caribbean joy.
